Blog Promotion

30 Strange ways to Promote Your Blog

Promoting your blog is the most difficult part of blogging. After spending hours writing a great post and putting links and images in it you push the publish button and wait… but nothing happens! Your post is live on the web and no one is going to read it! You can’t even get a comment!

1# Yard Sale – Sell items you no longer want and make sure to put up a sign in your yard with the words “Sponsored by ______.com”

2# Teach a Local Class – Go to your local community center, college, primary schools, etc. and offer to teach a free class about your blog’s niche. If you blog about cars, teach a class about how to change a tire. There are a lot of ways to build face-to-face relationships in your area.

3# Get on Your Local News – Find a way to get in your local newspaper to build some hype around your blog and what you are doing online. An easy way to do this is by writing an editorial or showing up to important local events.

4# Farmer’s Markets – Give away food at local events like farmer’s markets, conventions, fairs, car shows, or other local events. People will stop by your booth and will accept a handout with your product or blog on it for a small bit of food.

5# Go to the Beach – Enjoy yourself and while there etch your url into the sand. Just be sure to watch out for the tide. – Works in snow too!

6# Write on a Dirty Car Window – It only takes a second!

7# Host a Snowball Fight! – Unless it is illegal in your state. This is a fun way to get people to have fun and with a little hot chocolate sponsored by your blog it’s a quick way to get your name out as well.

8# Yard Sign – Campaigns do it all the time, just put a very nice sign in your window or yard, be sure to check the rules of your city or neighborhood though.

9# Post Flyers – Stick a poster about your website on your work or school’s notice-board. You probably want to wait until no-one is around before you try this one.

10# Public Browser Trick – Go to your local library, internet cafe or computer lab and set your blog’s domain name as the default browser homepage on all the computers you can easily access. Just make sure not to violate any terms of use.

11# Router Trick – This is an easy one to do and can get your neighbors interested in your blog. All you have to do is name your wireless router after your blog and try to get your neighbors interested. Who knows, you might have a fellow blogger next door.

12# Blank Business Cards – You can hand out a business card whenever your blog comes up or whenever you bring it up in conversation. Be sure to mention your blog to more people offline.

13# Local Meeting – Organize a meet-up for webmasters and bloggers in your area and use it as an opportunity to network.

14# Backpack Patch – Get yourself a custom patch to put on your bag or backpack and travel with it everywhere.

15# Niche Hot-Spots – Leave fliers or posters at hot spots for your niche. For example: If you have a music blog then post flyers at a local music shop, concert venue, etc.

16# Take Out a Local Ad – Local ads in newspapers are often pretty cheap and local papers have a circulation of thousands. One more way to be found.

17# Wear your URL – Create for yourself and friends custom t-shirts or hats with your URL on it. People will want to know more and you will be creating conversations about your blog.

18# Use a Talent – You Draw? Make Crafts? Sing Songs? Find a way to expand your visitors by showcasing a talent which exposes your blog.

19# Homeless Humor Approach – Why do your advertising approaches have to be boring? Try something funny and exciting

20# Hire a Consultant – Find out specifically how you can get your blog going and get help from an expert. I have consulted many clients and the key is for bloggers to be open and willing to listen. Many consultants are pretty inexpensive considering the time they save you from having to learn it on your own.

21# Hire a Publicist – Have them take care of your PR for you. They are expensive though so be aware.

22# Bumper stickers – There a millions of drivers so get a bumper sticker for your blog and mail them or sell them to your blog readers. Every time they drive anywhere they will be promoting you.

23# Have a Party – Tell local bloggers, friends, and family that your blog is sponsoring a party with food, drinks or whatever you want. Then when everyone comes in hand them a card with your blog on it. It will create some great buzz offline.

24# Invite Offline Friends – Often we forget that many of our friends and associates offline might be interested in our niche too. Just mention your blog the next time your offline friends ask you what you are up to.

25# Advertise on the Radio – It is generally pretty cheap and very easy to set up. If you have something non-web people would want get talking.

26# Advertise on TV – If you have product to sell and 30 second commercial might be a great way to get people online to check out your site.

27# Sell Your Product on an Infommercial – If people can sell inflatable kitchen knives and tons of other wacky stuff, you can sell your product too!

28# Put Your URL on Your Desktop – If you are like me you use your computer outside of your house at school, library or in public. People will see it and may visit your site.

29# Write a Guest Posts for Offline Productions – I’m talking about newsletters, magazines, books, newspapers, or any other offline production you can help people and do a little self-promoting at.

30# Marketing Apparel – Get a t-shirt made with your blog’s logo and URL on it. You can also offer the t-shirt as a prize in a contest on your blog. If the t-shirt’s design is pretty cool, the winner will advertise for you wherever they go!

Tiger Woods and Blog Promotion

I already know why you clicked this article because you want to know how I can make Tiger Woods part of blog promotion. I thought about writing this post while I was driving kids to school this morning and I heard the radio talk show hosts talking about Tiger Woods. Tigers crash and secret love life has been on the news since Thanksgiving and hasn’t let up yet. The reason is that all the talk shows and celebrity gossip shows and sites love juicy controversy. You as a blogger can take advantage of this every time something juicy happens and use it to your advantage. Tiger Woods has been the number 1 search term on google for the last 2 weeks.
http://hostphotofree.com

What that means is millions of nosy people want to know what the latest news is on the Tiger drama. Well your blog isn’t about Tiger you say. Hmmm this blog isn’t about Tiger either but I am writing about it just to show you how you can take something sensational that happens and add it to your blog. This blog post will show up in the long keyword tails and who knows where else it might land. When a seasoned web surfer search’s in google for a term there is a little tab in the corner that says options. I use it everyday for my other blogs that I own. It tracks the latest posts for any search term you enter in google search. When I hit submit this blog post will become the latest news story for Tiger. Sure some people will come to this blog and be disappointed that I am not posting any juicy Tiger news. But I really don’t care I just got a new unique visitor to my site. And a potential future reader if they own a blog and see that I am a blog promotion guru. Some of you might think that is underhanded blog promotion or bait and switch. Well it might be, but to succeed you need to take the by any means necessary attitude to swim with the sharks in the fight for new blog readers.
http://hostphotofree.com

If you go to yahoo.com there is a web pulse that is updated constantly telling you what the top search terms are at that moment on yahoo. This is another good blog promotion tool to use especially if you blog about celebrities or current events. It is a must that you are up to the minute on celebrity news if you have a celebrity news blog. Most of the hot searches are going to be on celebrity news. When it gets close to the holidays the hot searches for christmas will be christmas gifts with long tails keywords. If you have a blog and you sell stuff you need to write posts with long keywords. A example would be instead of Christmas gifts for dad, you might change the title to Christmas gifts for dads that have everything. This subtle change could get your blog post on the front page of google for that search term. Are you confused yet ? Tiger Woods would probaly come to my blog for blog promotion tips if he wrote his own blog. Tiger Woods blogs about his girlfriends on this secret blog. The last two sentences I just wrote will get crawled by the google robots and get indexed probaly at the top page of google for the those search terms. This is an advance blog promotion tip that should not be over looked and you should use on a regular basis. Tiger Woods might be the popular search term of the moment but next week something else is going to take over that top spot. If you have a certain niche that you only write about, you need to figure out how you can incorporate whats popular into your latest blog posts if you want to get that extra blog promotion.

Why you should use Blogengage for Blog Promotion

I am a new user to Blogengage but it is my new favorite blog promotion site. I am very knowledgeable in all levels of Blog Promotion and a self proclaimed expert and I only plug sites that I truly believe in. I own many blogs and many web sites and have a team of writers and coders and promoters that work for me and with me on my many blogs and sites, so I am what you would call a successful web entrepreneur. I did not start out this way I just grew to the point I could not do everything I need to do in a day by myself and it just grew from there. Blogpromotiontips.com is my newest blog it has only been online for 36 days I do all the work on blogpromotiontips myself and I have no help and I write all the articles. I started this blog because I wanted to prove to myself and to the world that I could use my own blog promotion tips to get on the front page of google for every blog promotion keyword out there in one year and help as many bloggers as I can achieve the same thing by revealing my secrets. That is not a easy task even for me, but I will accomplish it and you to can accomplish the same thing if you just follow my blog promotion tips and put them to use. In the 36 days I have been online I have managed to get on the front page of google for many Keywords I have targeted  and I will get the other key words in the coming months and I am now starting to grow my traffic. My main goal with this site was to help other bloggers accomplish there goals with there blogs by using my blog promotion tips. This is where Blogengage.com comes in to play for all those that dont know about it.

Blogengage allows you to submit your blog articles that will be reviewed by all and will be promoted by me, is what Brian the owner of blogengage says his site is all about. When I first read this on his site I started to dig deeper and found that Brian is true to his word. I have started promoting blogpromotiontips on blogengage and will start moving all of my other blogs over to it in the coming weeks. As a blogger you should use all avenues of blog promotion available to you, but only focus on those blog promotion techniques that are most beneficial to you. I proclaim blogengage to be one of the current top four most important blog promotion social networking sites on the planet. I also have found blogengage to be very user friendly and that is a good thing in my book when it comes to blog promotion. There are many blog carnivals out there and many copycats trying to capitalize on the popularity of blogs. You as a blog owner should be very selective on what type of social site you use to promote your blog on. I am the type of person that is not easily impressed and I also have thick skin when I am told I have horrible grammar and I dont write that well. It doesn’t bother me as I know there are many like me who dont write good and don’t punctuate well but bare with me as I am to old and to busy to learn to write properly. But one thing I do extremely well is drive traffic to all my blogs and sites thru good blog promotion. Blogengage is going to be one of my main blog promotion tools that I shall use on a daily basis and you as a blog owner should do the same. Blogengage also has a very loyal bunch of readers over there that are encouraging and supportive of each other. This is another plus for me as I know how competitive the internet is and how many people like to hate on each others sites just because there own sites are not doing very well. I did not find this to be the case on blogengage, I found that the many bloggers at blogengage to be just the opposite. It is a warm and inviting site kind of like a family, not cold and clammy like digg and technorati where you will not get any love at all from the site owners or there readers. I am so glad that I have found blogengage and I intend to use it extensively and I urge you to sign up and start posting there as well and make blogengage.com a part of your blog promotion plan.  Blogpromotiontips fully endorses Blogengage.com and I have to give it the big Thumbs Up.

Blog Promotion for Dummies

I love the big yellow and black books for dummies that are put out on every subject under the sun. I checked Amazon and there is a book Blogging for Dummies for sale. I have not read it but it made me laugh. I could write my own book on Blog Promotion for dummies if I could find the time, but instead I will just write about it on this blog in Chapters.

Blog Promotion for Dummies Chapter 1

I will assume you have already started a blog about something you are passionate about or just want to write about on a constant basis. Lets get started on your Blog Promotion.

Step 1 : You should write one blog post everyday for 10 days . It does not matter if anyone is reading your first posts as you need some content on your blog before you start your blog promotion. Just pretend you have thousands of people that are going to read your first 10 posts and  you should do well.

Step 2 : Ten days have passed and you should now  have 10 blog posts completed. You will now start submitting your blog to all the major search engines, google, yahoo, bing, excite, jayde. If you do not know how to submit your blog to a search engine the best way to do it is to do it yourself. Example go to google.com and type in the words submit url this should return a link to submit url to google. Fill out the form and submit your url, repeat this process for all the major search engines above. Dont waste your money paying someone to do this for you it is not worth it. You can do the same thing in 5 minutes. It is not necessary to submit your site to the hundreds of little search engines as nobody uses them and they wont bring you any traffic.

Step 3 : Tell everyone you know about your new blog friends, family,co workers tell everyone. And ask them to tell there friends and family members about your blog. You will be surprised at how fast word of mouth can spread when you ask your family and friends  and co workers for help. If you want somebody to read your blog then start with those closest to you and then branch out.

Step 4 : Email your entire email list and let them know you have started a new blog and you would like them to come by and check it out and give you some feedback. Sometimes this is effective blog promotion sometimes it is not. The spam police are everywhere now and some of the people on your email list might not like unsolicited email or will not even open your email. But some will open your email and come to your site. Make sure you leave a direct link to your site in the email message.

Step 5 : Start your social networking blog promotion campaign. Start with Twitter and make a account with your blog name if available and then facebook and myspace and blogengage. Those are the four social networks you should start with and concentrate on. You can only juggle so much blog promotion in a day and you still have to write new content. On all of your new social networking sites make sure you put your link back to your blog in your profile. Also take a different blog article you wrote in the 10 days and copy paste it into the blog you have on facebook and myspace. You will then want to start submitting your articles to blogengage and get a plugin that tweets all your posts to twitter. These are your first five tasks to getting your blog promotion off the ground. If this article was beneath your knowledge because you are a seasoned blogger this article was not meant for you it was meant for the new blogger.

Blog Promotion and Comment Approval

Well I took the whole weekend off for this blog as I am in the middle of moving and there was just no time for me to post. But I am back at it with a vengeance. My first blog promotion tip for the week is comment approval. I visit a lot of blogs and the first thing that pisses me off is when I write a long engaging comment and hit submit and I get a your comment has been submitted for approval. Not only is this a turn off for the visitor of a persons blog it is bad business.

blog promotion cartoon http://blogpromotiontips.com

You should reward the readers that are nice enough to leave a comment on your blog by having your comments set on auto approve. The reader should not have to register to comment and enter captcha, that is a waste of the readers time and and will cause a reader to leave your blog and never return . This is not user friendly and is not going to make your blog special by requiring this. If you are worried about spam then use askimet plugin or another spam plugin to filter the spam. Every now and then a spam comment will squeeze thru your spam filter but who cares, just delete it. If you are really working to improve your blog promotion then you should be monitoring your blog and engaging with your commenter’s and you would notice a spam comment sneaked by your plugin. But I doubt this will happen very often as askimet is vastly improved now to detect all the spam comments you dont want. If someone takes the time to  leave a comment on your blog then follow them back to there blog and leave a comment or there blog and let them know you saw they visited your blog. If your blog gets hundreds of comments a day then just do your best to comment back on as many as you can. This will go a long way in building bridges to more readers and help you increase your blog promotion. Something as simple as commenting on a blog post should not be time consuming and difficult for your blog readers. If you have your blog on approve all comments then you need to change it and  install the askimet plugin and put all comments on auto approve. Trust me on this it will make your readers very happy to know that he or she could comment on your article and it is auto approved. Those blog owners who require you to jump thru hoops don’t deserve a comment and if you are looking to get a backlink out of one of these type of comment moderation is on blogs forget it. They will not approve your comment as they think they are the comment police, and whoa is them if someone leaves a backlink on there blog. Leave a comment on my blog today and watch the auto approve. Happy Blogging Monday
